PENGHUNI KAMPUNG
2016
Similar to dogs roaming the big city for spots to claim their own, street skaters often form their own ‘village’ once a conducive location is identified. Until the authorities come knocking.
Penghuni Kampung (Village Residents) consists of two dog figures that represent skateboarders on the streets. This work is a composition of the artist’s very own used skateboards. For the exhibition, the dogs continue to ‘wander’ around looking for the perfect spot, as well as new acquaintances.
Canine imagery often figures in Donald Abraham works as he feels that the dog represents his spirit animal.

About the artist
Donald Abraham (b.1981) paints unreal, dream-like worlds of distorted and deformed realities, crusted with humorous details. He expresses himself with colour in a disorderly manner, allowing his subconscious to flow spontaneously in lines and strokes, without technicalities or rules.
